This is one of the unmarked dive sites around the southern tip of Bonaire, near the Willemstoren. Here you can make a drift dive from The Chairs towards the red slave huts, with an average current that takes about 90 minutes. This is a place that is suitable only for experienced divers, preferably with a guide. The currents can be strong and leaving the water is tricky. Never go diving here with strong winds.
The shallow plateau is quite wide and is beautifully overgrown with coral. The sea fans reach 16 feet here! The best depth is between 26 and 49 feet, the drop off is around 30 feet. Around 66 feet you often find large schools of tarpon and the likelihood of turtles here is also great. Once the bottom becomes rocky at around 16 feet you have to leave the water. You have arrived at the red slave huts, where you are being picked up if everything goes well.
Do you want to visit The Chairs? In Bonaire Dive Guide you can find more information and detailed directions. Convenient, as many dive sites on the East coast are off road and hard to find. The guide is also practical as a reference and safe: leaving your mobile phone in the car during a dive is not wise.
