This beach is located between the sea and a large salt lake and has some trees that provide shade. At the fishermen’s cottages much fish waste is left behind, which attracts many frigate birds. You can go into the water through the concrete shore or beach.
At the first few feet there is a lot of old reef where many algae grow that attract many fish. At 20 feet the reef starts with an immediate drop off, which is quite hilly. At 65 feet you will find a huge brain coral on your left, and even further to the left at 36 feet the largest pillar coral of Bonaire. On the way back you will find a huge purple sponge around 40 feet.
Do you want to visit Playa Frans? In Bonaire Dive Guide you can find more information and detailed directions. Convenient, as many dive sites on the North coast are off road and hard to find. The guide is also practical as a reference and safe: leaving your mobile phone in the car during a dive is not wise.
