This dive site is only accessible by boat and lies in front of the reef of Lac Bay. Only dive here with an experienced guide. A dive on Funchi is often combined with a dive at the White Hole.
Funchi is divided into a northern and southern part. South is the reef of Lac Bay, North is located in the canal to Lac Bay, at Cai. At Funchi you can drift dive very well. The whole reef is very extensive and the more current, the more you can see. South has healthy corals with fjord-like inlets into the reef to a depth of 230 feet. Chances are great to encounter a few turtles, large rays and sharks, but the coral here is the best known.
North is shallower with small coves, yet it is also 164 feet but the reef stops at 66 feet. Here you will find groups of large rays and turtles. The rocky bottom on the plateaus of South and North have lots of coral. So do not just go for the big fish, but look here as well!
Do you want to visit Funchi? In Bonaire Dive Guide you can find more information and detailed directions. Convenient, as many dive sites on the East coast are off road and hard to find. The guide is also practical as a reference and safe: leaving your mobile phone in the car during a dive is not wise.
