Have you made a brisk walk through our National Park and do you need a break to relax on a beautiful beach? Boka Slagbaai is the perfect place to go. On this beautiful wide beach you’ll find picnic tables and restrooms and there is a charming restaurant that is open daily. Here you can order simple meals like burgers and sandwiches to enjoy with a nice cold drink and a beautiful view.
In the second half of the 19th century cattle was slaughtered, salted and dried at this beach, to be shipped to Curacao together with the dried skins. The old buildings at this beach, formerly known as ‘Butcher Bay’, still remind us of the time they were used as a storage house, slaughterhouse and overseer house.
Although much of nature above and under water was destroyed at this beach by Hurricane Lenny in 1999, this still is a wonderful place to be. You can enjoy scuba diving and snorkeling and will quite certainly encounter some beautiful tropical fish. In the water you’ll even find some concrete guns that were used for the film ‘Shark Treasure’.
Do you rather stay on the shore? The beach is varied but gorgeous. It has bright spots of white powdery soft sand and big rough pieces of stone and coral. Bring your watershoes, take a towel with you or sit back in the sand and enjoy the stunning views.
Did you have some delicious food and drinks and are you ready to explore another fabulous place? Then go to the beautiful and serene salt lake Salina Slagbaai across the road. Here you will always find a number of flamingos and other beautiful birds that like to live in this peaceful place.
