Hilma Hooker

At this wreck diving site it’s always crowded. Several boats may moor per buoy and there is a big parking lot. This is a wonderful place for night dives.

The wreck that lies here was sunk deliberately in a place that does no harm to ships. The wreck of 236 feet and a width of 36 feet is an old ‘drugs-ship” that was taken into custody by customs after a find of 11,000 kilos of marijuana. When the owner did not report himself, it was decided to sink the ship here. To visit this wreck it’s best to enter the water at the two piles of coral on the beach. The three buoys in the water respectively show the reef (23f), the front (69f) and the back (85f) from the boat.

The Hilma Hooker wreck lies on its side, the lowest point is the mast. The most beautiful part of the wreck are the rudder and propeller, with beautifully colored sponges. The ship has a number of open doors and shutters, but only enter them if you’re an experienced wreck diver. Around the wreck you can find many tarpon, sand eels and great barracudas. The reef in front of the wreck is certainly worth exploring!
